Every new Alien Guitar Secrets student begins with an assessment as part of their first lesson. There is no separate assessment fee.
The first session gives us time to understand your current playing, experience and goals while also giving you the opportunity to experience the AGS teaching approach before deciding whether ongoing tuition is right for you.
Your assessment is Lesson 1
Rather than charging for an assessment before your lessons begin, we use your first lesson to establish where you are, begin meaningful work and identify the most useful direction forward.
No ongoing commitment required
You don't need to decide on weekly or flexible tuition before your first lesson. Experience the teaching, hear the recommended direction and take some time afterwards if you need it.

Your first AGS lesson gives us the opportunity to look at where you are now, identify the areas that will make the biggest difference and establish a clear direction for your development.
Whether the next step is Junior Academy, regular private tuition, online learning or a more specialised pathway, the goal is to make sure we begin in the right place rather than putting every student through the same program.
This is a real lesson, not simply an evaluation.
You'll leave with practical direction and something useful to begin working on straight away.

Designed Around the Student
Many guitarists spend years collecting disconnected information without ever developing a clear understanding of what they actually need next.
Beginning with an assessment helps us avoid that. It allows the lesson to start from the student's actual ability, musical interests and goals rather than forcing everyone through the same sequence.
From there, we can recommend the most useful pathway forward — whether that's regular private tuition, Junior Academy, Zoom lessons or a structured AGS course.
The goal is simple:
clarity about where you are, confidence about what to work on and a learning pathway that actually makes sense.
Who Is the First Lesson For?
There is no minimum experience level. We simply begin wherever you are now.
And you don't have to decide immediately
If you're unsure about committing to regular tuition, that's completely fine. Use the first lesson to experience the teaching, hear the recommended pathway and then take some time to decide whether continuing is right for you.

Rob has spent more than 20 years developing a guitar teaching approach that combines structured musical development with practical musicianship, fretboard understanding and creative expression.
Rather than forcing every guitarist through the same sequence, the focus is on understanding the individual player first — where they are, what they already know, what is holding them back and what they ultimately want to achieve.
Your first lesson is the beginning of that process: establishing a clear starting point, beginning meaningful work immediately and creating a direction that makes sense for you.

After your first lesson, we'll discuss the most appropriate next step and any current weekly, or flexible lesson availability.
First Lesson Pricing
Your assessment is included as part of Lesson 1
There is no additional assessment charge. Your first session is simply billed at the normal lesson rate for the appropriate lesson length.
