THE AGS APPROACH
Understand the Neck. Internalise the Connections. Make It Your Own.
The goal isn't simply to memorise more shapes. It's to recognise the relationships across the fretboard, understand and hear what you're playing, then spend enough time with those connections that they become part of you — giving you greater freedom to create, improvise and express yourself without constantly searching for the next pattern.

READY TO START?
Take Control of the Fretboard
Work through the complete 12-week Fretboard Mastery system at your own pace and start seeing, hearing and connecting the neck as one musical system you can actually use.
Many guitarists spend years learning scale patterns, licks, modes and isolated positions without ever developing a clear picture of how the entire fretboard connects.
WHY PLAYERS GET STUCK
Fragments Don't Create Freedom
You may know several scale shapes. You may understand individual patterns. You may even have a collection of licks that sound great in isolation.
But when it's time to move freely across the neck, improvise confidently or understand why the notes work, those separate pieces can still feel disconnected.
Fretboard Mastery is designed to replace that fragmented view with a practical understanding of the fretboard as one connected musical system.
THE FRETBOARD MASTERY APPROACH
Build the Connections Step by Step
Over 12 weeks, the course develops the relationships between notes, intervals, scales, chords, modes and improvisation so you can begin recognising the logic underneath what you play.
The goal is not simply to give you more information. It is to help you understand where those relationships live on the neck, hear what they sound like and work with them until they become something you can use instinctively when you play.
WHAT YOU'LL DEVELOP
A More Complete View of the Fretboard
01
See One Connected Map
Stop treating each position as a separate box and begin recognising the relationships across the entire neck.
02
Find Notes With Confidence
Develop reliable fretboard awareness instead of depending entirely on memorised patterns.
03
Understand Intervals, Scales & Chords
Learn how the core elements of music connect rather than studying each one in isolation.
04
Move Beyond Position-Based Playing
Begin moving horizontally, vertically and diagonally across the fretboard with greater awareness.
05
Improvise With Greater Intent
Make more deliberate musical choices instead of relying on guesswork or familiar shapes alone.
06
Apply What You Learn Musically
Turn theory and fretboard knowledge into practical playing, creativity and improvisation — so what you learn starts becoming part of your musical vocabulary.
THE GOAL
Know What You're Playing. Hear Why It Works. Use It Freely.
Fretboard Mastery is designed to give you a framework you can continue using long after the 12 weeks are finished. The more clearly you see and hear the relationships — and the more deeply you internalise them — the less you have to rely on memorised shapes and the more freedom you have to make musical choices of your own.
WHAT YOU WILL LEARN
Build the Fretboard From the Ground Up
Fretboard Mastery develops the core relationships that make the guitar neck understandable — then shows you how to connect, hear and internalise those ideas so you can use them musically.
01
FOUNDATION
Fretboard Foundations
Learn how the fretboard is actually laid out, how notes repeat across the neck, and how sharps, flats and enharmonics work.
The goal is to stop seeing the guitar as a collection of random frets and start recognising one connected map.
02
NAVIGATION
Intervals & Musical Navigation
Understand how music is constructed at its core by learning intervals directly on the fretboard.
This creates the bridge between what you see, what you hear and what you play — giving you a clearer way to understand and navigate the neck with purpose.
03
SCALE CONNECTION
Scales Without Confusion
Demystify major, minor, modes and pentatonics so they stop feeling like unrelated scale boxes.
Learn how the patterns connect across the fretboard and how to use scales as musical tools rather than simply memorising fingerings.
04
HARMONY
Chords & Harmony
Discover how chords are built from scales, how chord progressions function and how harmony can be visualised across the neck.
This supports stronger rhythm playing, songwriting and a deeper understanding of what is happening underneath your solos.
05
APPLICATION
Improvisation & Musical Freedom
Bring everything together and begin moving beyond position-based playing.
Connect ideas across the neck, hear and target musical relationships, develop melodic solos and make more intentional choices instead of relying entirely on familiar boxes, stock licks or guesswork.
THE CONNECTION MATTERS
Each Element Builds on the Last
Notes lead to intervals. Intervals reveal scales and chords. Scales and chords reveal harmony. Harmony gives you the context to improvise and create. And through repetition, listening and musical application, those separate elements begin to become one connected language you can actually use.

Why I Built Fretboard Mastery
Over years of teaching, I kept seeing the same problem: guitarists who had learned plenty of scales, shapes, licks and theory, but still didn't feel that the fretboard truly belonged to them.
I wanted to create a system that connected notes, intervals, scales, chords, harmony and improvisation — but connection alone wasn't enough. The deeper aim was to help players stay with those relationships long enough to hear them, recognise them and eventually use them without having to consciously search for them.
Because the point of understanding the fretboard isn't to become better at thinking about the fretboard. It's to remove one more barrier between the music you hear or feel inside and what comes out of the guitar.
01
Connect see and hear how the relationships across the fretboard fit together
02
Create internalise those relationships and use them through improvisation, phrasing and your own musical ideas
03
Transcend move beyond conscious searching so the instrument becomes increasingly transparent to your musical intent
THE TEACHING PHILOSOPHY
The Better You Know the Fretboard, the Less You Should Have to Think About It.
Technique matters. Theory matters. Fretboard knowledge matters. But none of them are the destination. The real shift happens when what you've practised becomes internalised deeply enough that you can stop searching for the information and start listening to what you actually want to say.

I've been learning guitar with Rob for nearly two years and honestly it's been the best two years of my journey playing guitar. The confidence I now have playing in the band I'm in has gone from winging it to actually knowing what I'm doing.
