The AGS Junior Academy gives young guitarists a clear, structured pathway to build technique, rhythm, musical understanding, confidence and creativity.
It is designed to give students strong foundations while still allowing their personality, musical interests and individual strengths to develop.
More Than a Weekly Guitar Lesson
Young players need more than a collection of songs and exercises. They need to understand how their skills connect and why the things they are learning matter.
Junior Academy students learn how to play, listen, practise, perform, solve musical problems and gradually make more of their own decisions on the instrument.
The result is a student who becomes increasingly capable, confident and independent — without losing the enjoyment that made them want to play guitar in the first place.

Tom Clinch
Junior Academy Guitar Teacher
Tom began his own guitar journey as a student of Alien Guitar Secrets more than seven years ago. Through consistent practice and dedication, he developed strong technical ability, musical understanding and a deep knowledge of the fretboard.
Because Tom has experienced the AGS learning pathway himself, he understands what it feels like to begin from scratch, work through challenges and gradually build confidence on the instrument.
His teaching style is patient, encouraging and relatable. He connects particularly well with younger students, helping them develop solid foundations while keeping lessons engaging, positive and motivating.
Teaching within the AGS system: Tom works within the Junior Academy curriculum, progression structure and teaching philosophy, helping students develop technique, rhythm, musical understanding, repertoire and creative confidence.
What Does a Junior Academy Lesson Actually Look Like?
Lessons combine focused skill development with real music, musical understanding and opportunities to create. The exact balance changes as each student develops.
Build
Work on technique, coordination, rhythm or another foundation that helps the student play with greater control.
Play
Apply those skills through riffs, songs, chords and repertoire that make the lesson feel like real music.
Understand
Gradually connect what is being played to rhythm, fretboard knowledge, listening and musical relationships.

Explore through improvisation, jamming or a creative challenge so the student begins making musical choices.
Every Student Moves at Their Own Pace
The Junior Academy provides the structure, but the lesson is still personal. Material can be adjusted to suit the student's age, concentration, experience, musical interests and current stage of development.
JUNIOR ACADEMY TUITION
One-to-One Weekly Tuition for Ages 8–12
Junior Academy students have a reserved weekly lesson position with personalised tuition, clear practice direction and structured progression through the AGS Junior Academy pathway.
AGS Junior Academy
Ages 8–12
per week • 30-minute private tuition • AUD incl. GST
30 minutes provides an ideal starting point for many younger students. Longer lessons can be introduced as concentration, experience and musical development grow.
Reserved weekly lesson time A consistent recurring place in the Junior Academy timetable.
One-to-one tuition Teaching adapted to the student's age, ability, interests and pace of development.
Structured progression Clear phases, goals and milestones so both student and parent can see development over time.
Practice direction Clear guidance between lessons so students know what to work on and why.
Enrolment reserves your child's recurring lesson position in the Junior Academy timetable.
Your Child's First Lesson
The first lesson includes an initial assessment as part of the teaching session — there is no separate assessment appointment. We look at current ability, musical interests, learning needs and the most suitable starting point within the Junior Academy pathway.
If your child continues into ongoing Junior Academy tuition, that session becomes Lesson 1 of their regular program.
Is the Student 13 or Older?
Students aged 13+ move into the AGS Private Guitar Lessons pathway, where lesson length, repertoire and development can expand further around the player's goals and experience.
