ABOUT ALIEN GUITAR SECRETS
Alien Guitar Secrets was created around a problem familiar to countless guitarists: you can learn shapes, patterns, licks and techniques for years and still feel disconnected from the instrument — and from the music you actually want to make.
The problem isn't always a lack of information. Often, the information was never connected deeply enough to become something you can hear, feel and use naturally.
WHY AGS EXISTS
Founded by guitarist and educator Rob Lobasso, Alien Guitar Secrets connects fretboard knowledge, technique, rhythm, theory, listening and musical application so they stop existing as separate subjects.
Notes, intervals, scales, chords and technique matter. You need control of the instrument. You need to understand what you're hearing and seeing. But mastery is not the final destination.
The destination is being able to internalise what you've learned deeply enough that it becomes part of your musical voice — something you can use to phrase, improvise, compose and express what you actually want to say.
THE AGS APPROACH
Understand and hear how the fretboard, notes, intervals, scales, chords, rhythm and technique relate to one another.
Use those relationships in phrases, improvisation, repertoire and composition — making increasingly intentional musical choices of your own.
Internalise what you've learned deeply enough that you're no longer dependent on shapes, formulas or constant conscious thought — and the guitar becomes a more direct channel for your musical voice.
HOW WE TEACH
The AGS method has some of the discipline of a dojo: build the foundations properly, develop each skill with purpose and gradually learn to use those skills with greater freedom.
Technique matters. Knowledge matters. Practice matters. But none of them are the destination. The work is to stay with an idea long enough to understand it, hear it, internalise it and eventually express it without the exercise itself getting in the way.
