Yes. Alien Guitar Secrets teaches complete beginners through to experienced and advanced players. Beginners are introduced to the instrument step by step, with an emphasis on good technique, rhythm, fretboard awareness and understanding what they are playing rather than simply memorising shapes.
Your first lesson includes an assessment as a natural part of the session. We'll look at your current playing, musical experience, interests and goals, identify areas that would benefit from development and begin working on something practical straight away. There is no separate assessment fee and no requirement to commit to ongoing lessons before your first session.
Lesson pricing depends on lesson length and whether you choose weekly reserved tuition, fortnightly tuition, a prepaid lesson pack or flexible individual bookings. Junior Academy tuition starts from $60 per week. For the complete current pricing structure, visit the Lesson Prices page.
No. Weekly tuition provides the greatest consistency and reserves a regular position in the teaching timetable, but fortnightly and flexible options are also available. Flexible students book from available lesson times rather than holding a permanent weekly appointment.
The AGS Junior Academy is designed for younger guitar students, with lessons adapted to the child's age, concentration, experience and stage of musical development. Students aged 13 and over move into the Private Guitar Lessons pathway rather than a separate Teen program.
Private lessons are taught from the Alien Guitar Secrets studio on Sydney's Northern Beaches. Students attend from Dee Why, Narraweena, Brookvale, Freshwater, Curl Curl, Manly and other surrounding areas.
Yes. Live one-to-one Zoom lessons are available for students throughout Australia and internationally. Online students receive the same personalised teaching approach, practice direction and musical development as studio students. Learn more about Zoom lessons.
AGS focuses on helping guitarists understand how musical information connects across the instrument. Notes, intervals, scales, chords, technique, rhythm, ear development, improvisation and repertoire are not treated as unrelated subjects. The aim is to connect them so that knowledge becomes something you can actually use creatively.

No. Fretboard understanding is an important part of the AGS method, but lessons also develop technique, rhythm, timing, ear training, improvisation, phrasing, repertoire, composition, creativity and performance skills. The balance changes according to the individual student's goals.
Absolutely. Repertoire is an important part of developing as a musician. Songs, riffs and solos can be used to develop technique, rhythm, musical vocabulary and understanding. Where possible, lesson material is connected to music the student genuinely wants to play.
Yes. AGS offers structured self-paced online training, including the free Fretboard Starter Mini Course and the complete Fretboard Mastery Course. Online courses can be used independently or alongside private tuition. View AGS online courses.
